70 | Value of photographer work

Being in good business is a great thing. A lot of photographers (including myself) want be the number one for some reasons. Some for a glory, some for money, some for a feeling of satisfaction from their work. Or, be at least better than… another 1000000 of photographers in the world. We compare all our work but have you tried to ask: what does it mean be better? Doesn’t it mean be different? But we ARE different! Does we need more?

I’m a full time wedding and lifestyle photographer. It wasn’t always this way but you know I felt in love with cameras and I started changed my world. I’ve worked hard every single day. I work even harder nowadays. And of course I did tons of mistakes… One of the biggest was that I didn’t accepted my weaknesses and I tried hide them – even in front of myself. Why I write it? Because you can be smarter and have a better life earlier and easier than me. It doesn’t matter what you do, DOING ANYTHING WELL IS DIFFICULT! And if you want be an exceptional it starts be really, really hard… no one tells you something different.

I was focused only in pictures for long, long time from the beginning. I’ve developed my style but it was also my biggest business MISTAKE ever! Great pictures and stories doesn’t mean that you will be payed, right? So I’ve changed angle of my view and I started work on it. I’ve learned new things, business, marketing, branding, team work… Systematically, step by step and, at my big surprise, it worked well!

Now, I’m starting a new big project. It’s oriented into a new target group and it’s all about PORTRAITS. I love people in my images, you can see it. I know how to work with them, how to encourage them, what they are looking for and why, how to make them feel great… And now – I know how to sell them what they ask me for. They wanted pay me a long time ago. I was too shy, too stupid and ‘self-de-confident’ (yes, first two things resisted) but now I’m at least sure about the value which I provide to my clients. So whatever you do, into whatever you put your dreams and hopes in, value YOURSELF as much as you can. It’s a great feeling to show your work and see how people love it… And ask yourself, if you LOVE something don’t you want pay for it?
